About Shaler Township

Shaler Township is a township in Allegheny County, in the North Hills area north of Pittsburgh. It was established by court decree on March 20, 1847, and is named for Charles Shaler, a Pittsburgh-area judge; the name is not related to shale rock.

Much of the Glenshaw community lies within the township, which also contains part of Allison Park. Other areas named by the township include Lower Glenshaw, Bauerstown, and the Babcock Boulevard, Evergreen and Spencer Lane areas. Several portions of the township use Pittsburgh mailing addresses.

The township maintains a network of parks, from the 30.6-acre Kiwanis Park with Crawford Pool to the 93.65-acre Fall Run Park with its trail to a waterfall, and it funds the Shaler North Hills Library on Mount Royal Boulevard.
